A Ross-shire dad who died following a disturbance in Easter Ross is being described by his relatives as a "family man" who was "loved by all" who knew him.

Scott Mitchell, from Alness, was pronounced dead at the scene after Police were called to Milnafua at around 12:30am on Saturday morning.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder as he appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday.

Scott's family say they're devastated at the "senseless loss" of the 48-year-old.

The father of two's family have released a statement through Police Scotland.

They said: “Scott was a family man, father of two, son, uncle and great uncle to his family and loved by all that knew him.

"The family are devastated at the senseless loss of Scott.

"Scott loved the outdoors and was a keen runner, golfer and cyclist who will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

Police say they've been carrying out extensive enquiries since the incident was reported and these enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Still said: “This was an isolated incident and there was no risk to the wider public.

"Officers will be carrying out additional patrols in the area and members of the public are encouraged to speak to a police officer if they have any concerns."

For legal reasons, the 15-year-old who was charged cannot be named.
