Falling Rocks Close A82
A busy road in the Highlands has been closed by falling rocks close to a popular tourist site. The A82 has been closed in both directions near Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness due to large boulders blocking the road. Police said more rocks could fall so closed the route while Bear Scotland engineers assess the damage and the surrounding area. Urquhart Castle attracts around 300,000 tourists each year and is popular for views of Loch Ness. The Highlands have been hit by bad weather for the last month and a police spokesman said: This closure is due to a rock fall involving large boulders with the potential for further rockfalls in the immediate future."
Road Traffic Officers are currently managing the scene with Bear Scotland operatives en-route to assess the surrounding rock strata.''
