EXCLUSIVE: Mcleod family to meet with officials today following independent review on Wick man's death
Merseyside Police conducted a separate investigation into Kevin Mcleod's death
The family of a Caithness man, whose body was found in Wick harbour 25 years ago, will meet with senior officials today following an independent review into his death.
Among those set to meet are Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain KC, Senior Crown officials, a Senior Officer from Police Scotland, and Officers from Merseyside Police, including Deputy Chief Constable Ian Critchley who will be attending the meeting via MS Teams.
Merseyside Police conducted a separate investigation into Kevin Mcleod's death in February 1997, following years of campaigning from his family as they believed he was murdered.
According to newspaper reports from earlier this year, the review cleared police and prosecutors of any criminality.
It was reported it was "highly unlikely" the 24-year-old was murdered, and that he had an "accidental fall".
However in November 2019 at the start of their review, the family were upbeat about progress from Merseyside Police to provide some answers.
Kevin's Dad Hugh said, "We have to believe in Merseyside Police coming in, more or less giving us any kind of assurance that they can give us, that they'll try and find out things that we have asked"
"Here we have officers who have looked into serious murder investigations now coming in on Kevin's case. They're the real Police Force, the real deal. Not a Mickey Mouse outfit"
Mum June added, "What they've said - I hope and I'm sure they will do - they've said more-or-less that they'll leave no stone unturned"
