MFR News has learned that glass was falling from the canopy along the walkway at the Inverness Centre Retail Park late on Sunday night - two days before a man was hurt there.

Bethany Urquhart works nearby - and reported the problem to police after finishing her shift at the weekend. She said:

"It was midnight and I was walking to Tesco, and I saw shards of glass all over the ground. I thought someone had broken into New Look, but then I looked up and realised one of the panes of glass had fallen. I just called the police and reported it. They came and took my details, but I didn't hear anything else of it.

"It was scary, because as I was standing there I could still hear shards of glass falling to the ground. I think I'd literally just missed it. I didn't hear anything else until about 6.00pm on Tuesday when I got a message from my manager. It said we were closed, because the building had to be evacuated.

"We've been told nothing. We've been getting told the night before if we're open or closed."

The retail park remains closed again today while checks are carried out.
