A light aircraft has had to make an emergency landing after it encountered engine trouble.

The twin engine Cessna with two people on board travelling from Wick to Iceland was forced to land on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, amid concern over one of its engines.

Members of Police Scotland, Scottish Fire North from Stornoway and Shawbost, Stornoway Coastguard, and Scottish Ambulance and RNLI all attended at Stornoway airport to assist members of the Highlands and Islands Airports Fire and Rescue team.

The plane landed safely without incident at around 7.15pm.

The A866 Stornoway to Point road was closed for a period of time, and police have expressed their thanks to members of the public for their patience.
