There was an emergency situation on a flight shortly after take-off from Inverness Airport, as it set off bound for London Gatwick.

On Thursday afternoon EZY 864 suffered a 'bird-strike' resulting in damage to the aircraft.

In many cases this can threaten the safety of passengers, so the pilot returned to the airport in-line with EasyJet procedures.

The carrier later said in a statement to MFR News that the emergency measures were "as a precaution only" adding that , "All passengers disembarked normally", with EasyJet sending a replacement aircraft to fly passengers to Gatwick.

EasyJet apologised for any inconvenience as a result of the delay but said, "The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is our highest priority"
