Elgin operation cracking down on drug dealing
Nine reported for drug offences in Moray
Police in Elgin have carried out an operation to target drug dealing, violence and anti-social behaviour in the area. Heroin and crack cocaine with a combined estimated street value of a £5890 was recovered and over £300 in cash which has been seized under Proceeds of Crime legislation. Following the operation, three men aged 39, 23 and 19, and one woman aged 23 have been reported in relation to being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs. The 23 year old woman and 39 year old man will also be reported in relation to theft of electricity. Five men, aged 53, 36, 30, 29 and 20 have been reported in relation to possession of cannabis and a 38-year-old man has been reported in relation to possession of heroin and cannabis. A 35 year old man will also be reported in relation to theft of electricity. A total of 10 drug search warrants were executed in the Fulmar Road, Meadow Crescent, Munro Place, Morriston Road, Croft Road, High School View, Moss End Place and McMillan Avenue areas of Elgin on Friday 22nd April. Additionally, three men (two aged 20 and one aged 17) were arrested and charged in relation to an assault at Ionic Bar in Elgin on 18 April 2016. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. The operation comes as officers continue to focus on community concerns to disrupt and deter drug dealing and the associated offending. The day of action involved officers from the Elgin Community Policing Team, North East Divisional Violence Reduction Unit, Operational Support Unit, CID Pro-active Unit, the Divisional Organised Crime Unit as well as dog handlers and dogs and the Roads Policing Unit. Sergeant Scott Brander, who organised the operation, said: "Elgin and the wider Moray area is not immune to the drug issues that the rest of the country faces. We have taken this action to show that we will act on the information provided to us by the public and will continue to do so." Elgin Community Policing Team Inspector Paul McCruden said: "This was a successful operation for us in Elgin as we continue to take action against those involved in the supply of illegal drugs, violence and anti-social behaviour.
