Police investigating reports of trouble during and after the Scottish Cup tie between Elgin City and Inverness Caledonian Thistle have charged eight people.

Four males - aged 16, 18, 19 and 20 - have been charged in connection with an alleged disturbance after the match, which took place on Saturday January 21.

Another four, three of whom are 16 and a 22-year-old - have been charged under the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act in connection with alleged incidents inside the ground during the match.

Half of those charged are from Inverness, while the others are from Elgin.

They're due to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police are praising the majority of fans who attended the game at Borough Briggs though.

Divisional Commander for Moray, Chief Inspector Stewart Mackie, said: "Thank you to the members of the public who provided officers with invaluable information in connection with this inquiry."

He added: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the vast majority of the 4,000 fans who attended and ensured the match was, on the whole, a safe and enjoyable event."
