Dornoch Academy pupil tests positive for coronavirus
Highland Council say contact tracing is underway
Around 68 pupils have been asked to self-isolate as a Dornoch Academy student has tested positive for COVID-19.
The affected senior pupil was last in school on Thursday 17th September as Highland Council say contact tracing is being carried out.
In a letter sent to parents of pupils at Dornoch Academy, Dornoch Primary and Bonar Primary, Dornoch Academy's Head Teacher said they are "continuing to monitor the situation."
The letter said: "A number of pupils who may have potentially had close contact with the pupil have been identified and advised to remain at home for 14 days from Friday 18th September until Friday 2nd October.
"All other pupils can continue to attend school as normal if they remain well.
"There is no evidence of any widespread transmission in the community."
A Highland Council spokesperson said: "We are aware of one confirmed case connected to Dornoch Academy and therefore close contacts have been contacted and required to self isolate on advice from Public Health.
"Only pupils or staff who have been contacted and asked to self isolate should do so."
NHS Highland have also been made aware of the confirmed case.
A spokesperson said: "NHS Highland's Health Protection Team is working closely with the school and Highland Council Education Service to manage this situation.
"All necessary action has been undertaken and contact tracing is being carried out with all close contacts asked to self-isolate for 14 days as a precautionary measure."
