A bill that would create a domestic abusers register is now being supported by twenty-three organisations from across Scottish society.

The Domestic Abuse Prevention Bill also includes measures to help rehabilitate those convicted of domestic abuse.

The proposed legislation is being supported by the likes of No Feart, the British Transport Police and the Law Society of Scotland.

'Left Out in the Cold'

No Feart is a group that works with both the victims and the perpetrators of domestic abuse.

Lynn Harris, the founder of No Feart, said: “It’s important for this bill to consider the perspectives of the victims of domestic abuse.

“We know things as survivors. We loved, we hated, we were confused.

“We watched everyone struggle, we’re the experts and we know what’s needed.”

Ms Harris added: “I’ve been in the recovery world for twenty years.

“I’ve listened to many people who have hurt their families.

“Because they did great programmes and many people got behind them, they have transformed their lives.

“They shouldn’t just be left out in the cold punished. Like all humans, they are complex, and they need proper support.”

Hoping for Parliamentary Support

Pam Gosal, the MSP who introduced the bill, said: “This bill proposal is necessary to crack down on the appalling crime of domestic abuse.

“We must do more to support the survivors who suffer this horrific kind of violence and emotional manipulation.

“I hope MSPs from other parties will consider supporting my Bill proposal.

“I’m pleading with the government to back it so we can work together towards ending this disgusting crime.”
