Dolphin Dies After Beaching In Highlands

The mammal became stuck on the coast of Skelbo, near Dornoch yesterday afternoon.

A dolphin that got stuck on a Highland beach had to be put down yesterday.

The mammal beached on the shore at Skelbo, near Dornoch around 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

SSCPA, police and coastguard were attended, but were unable to save it.

A coastguard spokesperson said: "Crews responded to a call received around 2:00pm yesterday of an animal on the beach.

"Teams from Dornoch and Helmsdale attended as there were a large amount of people on the shore at the time.

"They joined police and SSPCA staff at the scene, but unfortunately the dolphin couldn't be saved."
