Ross County have confirmed manager Derek Adams has resigned from his role at the club.

The move comes less than three months after he was appointed to replace Malky Mackay.

On his third managerial spell with the club, Adams won two out of the 12 matches he was in charge for.

He hit the headlines in December after launching an astonishing attack on Scottish football, saying the standard is "shocking" and his previous club Morecambe were "100 times better" than the Staggies.

In a statement released today, Adams says the club is "close to his heart".

He said: "After much consideration in recent weeks, I have made the decision to resign from my position as First Team Manager.

"Over my twelve League games in charge, we moved 6 points clear of the team directly below and have been extremely close to gaining more victories and draws along the way.

"Ross County Football Club is close to my heart after twice playing here and managing for a third time.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank Chairman Roy MaGregor and Steven Ferguson and wish them well for the future."

Roy MacGregor added: "We have agreed to accept his resignation in the best interest of both Derek and the club.

"We would like to place on record our thanks to Derek, and we wish him well for whatever he chooses to do in the future."

The Staggies currently sit 11th in the Scottish Premiership.

Adams last game in charge was yesterday's 5-0 away loss to Motherwell.
