A cyclist has died in a collision with a lorry in the Highlands.

A cyclist has died in a collision with a lorry in the Highlands.

The man sustained fatal injuries in the accident on the A82 on the north side of Fort William.

The crash happened near to the petrol station north of the roundabout for the A830 at about 5.15pm on Thursday.

Police have closed the A82 while an investigation is carried out.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: " Police advise that the A82 remains closed on the north side of Fort William following a collision involving a cyclist and a lorry, which occurred around 5.15pm on Thursday August 18.

"Sadly, the male cyclist has died as a result of his injuries. As part of the ongoing inquiries, officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or the cyclist on the road prior to the collision to make contact via 101.

"Further information will be issued in due course; drivers and local residents are thanked for their patience during the closure. The road will reopen as soon as possible."
