Following reports of people jumping safety barriers at the weekend, Moray Council has reinforced its message that Lossiemouth’s East Sands are not to be accessed via the closed footbridge.

With nicer weather tempting people to beaches, Leader of Moray Council, Graham Leadbitter, reminded would-be beach visitors that the East Sands should still not to be accessed from the town.

“The footbridge across to the East beach is dangerous to use and crossing the water below shouldn’t be attempted either,” he said.

“We don’t want accidents on the bridge or risk becoming stranded by crossing the water.

“The emergency services in Moray have enough to deal with at the moment, people shouldn’t put even more pressure on them, particularly the NHS, by taking risks that could result in injury or worse.”
