Children in the Cromarty Firth Ward are set to benefit from a proposal to allocate £15,000 of Covid-19 funds to support new playpark equipment.

A consultation with amenities staff and the public will take place ahead of any further progress.

Chair of the Easter Ross Area Committee, Councillor Fiona Robertson, said: "We are delighted to be able to progress this proposal, which is sure to lift the spirits of the community during what has been an extremely difficult time for everyone.

“Health and well-being are at the very centre of this proposal and anything which promotes physical activity following a period of lockdown and the ill-effects that has had on children’s mental health must surely be welcomed.”

Speaking to MFR News, local councillor Maxine Morely-Smith said: "You see some things that are broken, and when they become dangerous they are removed, but all over the older estates playparks have been left to go to rack-and-ruin"

"Kids have been cooped up and unable to see friends and they need to be able to get outdoors. Some playparks have been left abandoned and they need a place to escape the pressures of being locked-down"

"The ones who have been affected the most (during the pandemic) are children and the elderly"
