Council warns of big spend to avoid Elgin congestion
Moray Council's expecting another 15,000 journeys there every day by 2030.
It could cost as much as £30million to cope with the expected traffic on Elgin's roads in the coming years, according to Moray Council.
The local authority's warning 2,700 new homes being built by 2030 will mean an extra 15,000 car journeys through the area every day.
Among the administration's priorities are improved pedestrian areas and cycle paths.
Stephen Cooper, from Moray Council's roads department, told MFR News: "We've got a predicted growth of about 2,700 houses over the next 14 years.
"Clearly we need to make sure that traffic can move and we've got an appropriate network that can cope with that level of growth.
"We don't want to clog up Elgin with traffic problems and we need this strategy in order to free that up.
"That in turn should attract businesses to come into Elgin, particularly the centre, knowing that traffic can flow freely."
