Charleston Academy in Inverness is to close to S1 to S3s as of Wednesday.

Earlier today MFR News learned that, with the pupil attendance at 65%, letters had been issued to children at Charleston saying the school will only be open to those whose parents or carers work for the NHS, Police and other essential services.

Included in that were staff and pupils in "vulnerable groups" who were also asked not to attend.

Pupils were also told of the means they had to access work issued by teachers at home.

But following on from that, Nicky Grant, Interim Head of Education said:

"We apologise that the information in a letter issued by Charleston Academy is incorrect and did not follow guidance issued to all Head Teachers"

"The Council and all Highland schools are following national guidance"

"From tomorrow (18/03/20) due to staff self-isolating – Charleston Academy will be closed to S1-S3 pupils"

Parents and carers are advised to follow this link for further information as it becomes available on Highland Council school closures.
