The National Crime Agency have confirmed that cocaine seized from a ship in the North Sea last week has an estimated street value of more than £500m.

'The Hamal' was intercepted by The Royal Navy and Border Force due to intelligence last Thursday.

Nine Turkish crew members were detained, while the tug was taken to Aberdeen Harbour to be searched.

Once back at Aberdeen Harbour specialised National Crime officers carried out a full search of the vessel.

Inside they found three tonnes of cocaine, with a street value of £500m.

It is believed to be the biggest ever A class drug seizure made by police in UK history.

The men have already appeared in court charged with drug trafficking.
