Celtic fan killed on German motorway

A Celtic fan has been knocked down and killed after apparently trying to take a selfie on a German motorway.

The man, named online as 22 year old Dean Steele from Uddingston, had been out with friends celebrating his team's win over Rangers before the tragic accident.

He was hit by a car on the A24 Autobahn in Gudow, near Hamburg, at around 11.40am on Sunday.

In a statement, police in the nearby city of Lubeck said witnesses reported seeing the three men taking "cell phone pictures of themselves''.

The victim was hit by an Audi A6 being driven by a 73-year-old man.

A friend has set up a fundraising page on Just Giving to pay for his family's funeral costs which has already raised more than £2,000.

Friends and family have paid tribute on the page.

One reads, "my heart goes out to Harry and family and all of Deans friends. I hope they find some comfort to know the good people of Viewpark and beyond share their grief. God Bless xx"

Another says, "Rest easy banjo Buddha won't be the same during the games, or even in general ☘️💚."

His Facebook page shows him pictured with a number of Celtic players including Scott Brown and Kris Commons.

He works in customer relations for British Gas.

The three men had stayed in Hamburg before travelling to the area by train. Police said they may have been drinking prior to the crash.

The Foreign Office says his family are aware.

The spokesman added: "We are supporting the family of a British man who sadly died in Germany on April 30 and are in contact with the local authorities.''
