A far north mum says her family have forked out £500 on car repairs since Christmas due to a "disintegrating" road.

Ellen Sinclair, who lives just outside of Thurso, says the B870 Glengolly to Calder has been the cause of three incidents.

Between her and her son's car, they've had to pay for a burst tyre, a tyre puncture and a new track rod end over the last two months.

The Caithness mum decided "enough was enough" and posted footage of the road to Facebook.

She said: "To see the road disintegrating virtually every day, it's getting worse and worse.

"A big worry is an accident is waiting to happen.

"We have a lot of wild deer that cross the roads, if you swerve you're going to catch your tyres on the edge."

Ellen also says other roads in the nearby area are urgently needing repaired.

She added: "Even the immediate road going into Thurso from the west is in a shocking state.

"Numerous people I've spoken to have had broken springs, burst tyres etc.

"Nobody seems to be paying attention.

"More people need to get on board and lobby our councillors to see if there's any cash in any corner that could be used, because this road (the B870) is like a farm track."

Highland Council have been contacted for comment regarding the B870 and other nearby roads.
