Caithness beach listed among the 'most spectacular' in the world
It has been listed alongside nine other beaches including those in New Zealand, Dubai and the Caribbean
A Highland beach has been named as one of the "most spectacular" beaches in the world.
Thurso beach has been listed alongside nine other stretches of coastline in New Zealand, Dubai and the Caribbean.
Argentinian news website Infobae described Thurso as one of those which is 'different from the norm'
Three-time Scottish Surfing champion Mark Boyd, whose home overlooks the beach says it's "fantastic" to see Thurso being recognised.
Thurso "perfect solution" for those who don't like summer heat
The article titled "the 10 most spectacular and exotic beaches to visit once in your life" includes New Zealand's Ninety Mile Beach, Dubai's Jumeirah Beach and Maho Beach on the Carribean Island of Saint Martin.
When describing Thurso, the website singled out the beach as being a "perfect solution" to those who don't like sunny days out.
They said: "The heat in summer can be too suffocating for some people, but that doesn't mean they have to give up spending their days at the beach.
"The perfect solution is found in Thurso, a small town in northern Europe.
"The beach extends for around 500 meters into Thurso Bay and is one of the most northerly points on mainland Britain.
"In addition, being exposed to the Atlantic winds, it is one of the best surfing destinations in the country."
Earlier this year, Thurso held the Scottish Surfing National Championships, with organisers saying the "exposed headland provided plenty of swell and a great competition arena."
Mark Boyd has been living in Thurso for the past 15 years and was looking at the beach when he spoke to us earlier today.
He said: "That's fantastic for Thurso to be regarded so highly and obviously maybe I'm a bit biased, but I've chosen to live on the beach here in Thurso.
"My house is right on the esplanade overlooking the beach itself.
"It's a beautiful beach, with great views over the Old Man of Hoy in Orkney, Holburn Head and Dunnet head.
"Popular with dog walkers, surfers and other beach users a like."
