Ex-football manager attacked by XL Bully in Aberdeen
Both Buckie Thistle and Peterhead FC posted online to wish their former manager a speedy recovery.
It has emerged that a former Buckie Thistle, Peterhead and Cove Rangers manager was attacked by an XL Bully last week.
Dave Watson, 73, was taken to hospital with serious injuries on 17 January along with his wife after they were attacked by a dog at a property in Dyce.
He is expected to remain in hospital for a further 10 days whilst he recovers.
Buckie Thistle posted on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, on Monday sending well wishes to their ex-manager following the incident.
It reads: "Everyone at @BuckieThistle send good wishes to former manager Dave Watson after he was attacked by an XLBully dog in Dyce.
"Dave is receiving treatment within Ward 214 at ARI for his injuries. He's expected to be within hospital for at least 10 days or so. Get well soon Dave."
It's believed the attack occurred after the dog was startled, and we understand they had been warned not to go inside.
Emergency services were called to the address on Corrennie Circle at around 3.30pm and the couple were transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Peterhead FC also posted a statement on its website to wish a speedy recovery to their former manager.
It said: "Everyone at Peterhead Football Club would like to send very best wishes to our former Manager Dave Watson who was attacked by a dog in Dyce last week.
"We are getting regular updates from Dave’s son, former player Craig and although it looks like it may be a long road to recovery ahead, we know that Dave is made of tough stuff and will hopefully be on the mend soon. We’re all thinking of you Dave."
Police enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the attack.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3pm on Wednesday, 17 January, 2024 we received a report of a man being attacked by a dog in the Corrennia Circle area of Aberdeen.
“Emergency services attended and a 73-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
“Enquires are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
