A Moray harbour was cordoned off after a "possible ordnance" was discovered.
Bomb disposal experts were contacted following the find in Buckie.
Police Scotland say they were initially made aware of the discovery earlier this afternoon.
A spokesperson said: "Around 1.05pm on Friday, 5 April 2024, we received a report of a possible ordnance found at Buckie Harbour"
Later on Friday evening, the MOD provided a further update on the situation at Buckie.
They said the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team had assessed the item and determined it to be a 20mm cartridge case.
A spokesperson said: "We can confirm that on 5 Apr 24, Edinburgh Troop, 521 EOD Sqn, 11 EOD&S Regt RLC, responded at the request of Police Scotland to a suspect item of ordnance.
"The EOD team assessed the item and determined it to be a 20mm cartridge case, it was removed from the scene for later disposal."
Last month, a potentially suspicious item was also found at the harbour.
However, the object later turned out not to be an ordnance.
