An investigation's been launched after a boiler exploded at Raigmore Hospital this morning.

Three people were inside the boiler room when one of two biomass boilers blew up at around 10am.

No-one was injured in the incident and fire crews have now left the site.

There were no patients in the nearby Ward 11, as work started today on its transformation as the new children’s ward. However, staff members working there were evacuated.

People who were in Phases 11 and 111 of the Centre for Health Science were also evacuated into the facility’s Phase 1 building.

The hospital is now using its back-up oil-fired central heating system.
