The best fish and chips in the North of Scotland

Growing up in the back rooms of a chippy it’s fair to say that I’ve had my fair share of deep fried food over the years.

Here’s a pic of my dad and wee sister for way back.

So I was chuffed to hear about two local chippers who were nominated in The National Fish & Chip Awards in London last week. Representing the North of Scotland were The Trawler in Golspie & Fochabers Fish Bar.

Before the even took place, I caught up with Darren from Fochabers Fish Bar on the show to see how he was feeling. His business went on to be named as a finalist for the Quality Award and Cromars in Fife won best chippy in Scotland.

Here’s what owner Darren Bothroyd had to say:

"This is our first year of entering the awards and although we didn’t come first we are extremely proud to have been selected as one of the top 3 shops in the UK to be operating at this level, there are an estimated 10,500 fish and chip shops in the UK and we were 1 of only 2 shops to represent Scotland in the finals.

"Reaching the top 3 is a real testament to all the hard work that every member of staff has demonstrated throughout this last year and we couldn’t have done it without them, we have a fantastic enthusiastic team working at Fochabers who’s strong focus is on customer service."

Awards are good but when it comes down to it I’m a great believer in the customer is always right, so where in the North of Scotland would you say does the best bag of chips or supper?

Your answers came flooding in so if you fancy trying any of the recommendations take a look at the map below.
