We're being told that tap water in Aviemore is safe to drink, and there's nothing wrong with it.

Scottish Water's responding to Facebook comments posted on a public group by people claiming to be concerned.

Chief Operating Officer Peter Farrer says it comes after £24million was invested in a new treatment facility in 2012.

He told MFR News: "At that time we introduced a new raw water source, and when there are situations like that some customers do detect a slight difference because we are using a different source of raw water.

"We had a community event at the time when we were introducing the new supply, to specifically listen to any concerns that the local people had.

"There was at the time a handful of people who noticed a difference in the quality of the water, but after the initial stages of optimisation that has completely rectified itself.

"Every year we carry out something like 300,000 water quality tests across Scotland, and with the support of the drinking water quality regulator, we should be able to assure people that the quality of the water in Scotland has never been higher."

The water firm's holding a community event in Aviemore on Thursday, March 24th, at Macdonald Aviemore Resort from 17:45.

Locals from Across the North are being invited to attend the event which will see Scottish Water's top boss there with his directors to take questions from the public.

People wanting to go along will need to register their attendance by Thursday this week by emailing ListeningToYou@scottishwater.co.uk or calling 01383 848 272.
