Armed police called to Highland village following reports of a 'gunman' in the area

It is understood only one report of a sighting was made, but enquiries are ongoing.

Specialist officers have been called out near Inverness following reports of a man carrying a gun.

Police visited Farr Primary School after receiving reports of the sighting at around 11:30 this morning.

However, the school have confirmed they were told there was no risk to them or the wider community.

A statement posted on their school website earlier today said: "Following a safety concern in the local community, we have just had a visit from the Police and have been assured that there is no risk at present for our school and community.

"Please note the Police will continue to be a visible presence in the area for reassurance this afternoon."

It is understood only one report of a sighting was made, but enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.35 am on Tuesday, 25 April 2023, police were called to a report of a man carrying what was believed to be a firearm in Farr, near Inverness.

"Officers, including armed response officers, attended and a search of the area was carried out, however, no one at this time has been traced.

"There have been no further reports or sightings of the man made to police.

"Enquiries into the incident are continuing."
