Police Scotland is appealing for information after a 50-year-old man was injured during an assault on Forres High Street.

The incident happened at around 1am on Friday 27th May while the man tried to flag down a taxi.

It is understood a number of males - the exact number unknown - carried out the assault, causing injuries to the man's face and arms.

PC Gemma MacRae said: "Although the injuries are not life changing or threatening, the victim was still required to spend the night in hospital, and it goes without saying the great deal of distress it caused.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area on the night in question and saw anything to contact Police as soon as possible. No matter how insignificant you may think the information is, it could help with our investigation.

"Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers to remain anonymous on 0800 555111."
