Andrew Innes is set to appeal his sentence and conviction for the murder of Bennylyn Burke and Jellica Burke.

The 52-year-old was found guilty by a jury after a five-day trial at the High Court in Edinburgh earlier this month.

The trial also found he sexually abused the toddler and raped another child at his Troon Avenue address between February 20th and March 5th 2021.

During the trial Andrew Innes admitted killing the pair, but lodged a special defence of diminished responsibility. But, the jury of eight men and seven women dismissed this after around two and a half hours of deliberation.

Andrew Innes was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 36 years.

The High Court in Edinburgh confirmed "intimation of intention to appeal" for the sentence and conviction has been lodged.
