Alternative land considered for building new Highland prison

Alternative site to be considered for new HMP Highland prison

Plans are being put on hold to build the new HMP Highland prison opposite the Balvonie Braes area of Inverness.

It's after the Milton of Leys site owner offered an alternative site to the Scottish Prison Service which will take up to six-months to consider it.

But officials are warning that if it's unsuitable, then they'll press ahead with plans for the original site.
