A £95million investment has been announced for the Nordbord wooden board mill in Inverness.

The upgrade work at the Morayhill-based factory, just off the A96, will double the site's production.

A further €15million grant from Highlands and Islands Enterprise will also support the development.

Karl Morris, Managing Director, Norbord Europe and a Senior Vice President of the company told MFR News: “This announcement secures the long-term future of Norbord's employees and the indirect jobs it provides across the region.

“With direct road, rail and port access the reinvested mill will be in an even better position to efficiently serve our customers across the UK and in continental Europe.

“This investment underscores Norbord’s long-term commitment to Inverness and the Highlands region, and we look forward to continuing to play an important role in the community.”

Norbord currently employs 130-people in the Highland capital, and a further 300-jobs in the north are indirectly supported because of Inverness operation.
