5-year-old boy in critical condition as Highland crash also leaves 6-year-old seriously injured

The collision near Inverness Airport left five people in total needing treatment

A three car crash has left a five-year-old boy in a critical condition, while a 6-year-old girl has been seriously injured.

Yesterday's collision on the B9039, at the junction with the Dalcross Industrial Estate, also resulted in a 39-year-old woman needing to be taken to Raigmore Hospital.

The boy was initially taken to the Inverness hospital, but has since been transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

The 6-year-old girl remains at Raigmore, while the woman has since been released after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Two men were also checked over by paramedics at the scene following the crash.

Appeal for dashcam footage

Emergency services rushed to the scene following the crash at around 9am involving a grey Vauxhall Insignia, a grey Peugeot 208 and a black Vauxhall Astra.

The road was cleared and reopened around 6pm following enquiries.

Police Scotland are appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward.

Sergeant David Miller said: "We are appealing to anyone who was in the B9039/A96 area, or who saw any of the vehicles prior to the crash, to please come forward.

"We are also keen to speak to anyone in the area who may have dashcam footage, as we carry out enquiries into this incident.

"Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident 0658 of 6 March, 2023."
