5 Fisherman Rescued From Boat Blaze Off Aberdeeenshire Coast

Five fishermen have been rescued by another vessel after their boat caught fire.

The alarm was raised at about 1pm when the blaze took hold off the coast of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, on board the fishing vessel Karinya.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said the coastguard rescue helicopter from Inverness and the Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat were sent to the scene.

A nearby fishing vessel called Pleiades also responded to the emergency alert and recovered the five crew, who had abandoned their vessel and taken to a life raft, the MCA said.

All of the crew members were said to be safe with no injuries and the coastguard is monitoring the drifting vessel.
