9 creative pumpkin ideas 🎃

Make your pumpkin stand out from the crowd!

Author: Sarah ReevePublished 17th Oct 2024

The orange fruit is probably the most popular association with Halloween and we’re here to make sure yours isn’t the standard, boring crooked eyes and mouth.

Spray painted pumpkins, pumpkins made from old socks, unicorn pumpkins or even Disney! Gone are the days of mediocre creations. We have scoured social media for just some of those that we think will get the neighbours talking...

Make it personal

Who wants a pumpkin like everybody else!? No-one! Make it special by spray painting in your choice of colour and adding a name. If you're feeling lazy, you don't even have to do it yourself; many people make and sell them these days, even ceramic ones - personalised perfection!

Feeling odd!?

If you’re after an idea for the gram, this one is for you. X Factor and Loose Women star Stacey Solomon has already accelerated the sock pumpkin trend. After posting one of her famous ‘tap to tidy’ posts on her Instagram stories back in 2021, her followers started digging around for thread and odd socks to imitate her festive décor idea.

Make it magical

Stacey has also had a go at this idea too! That’s right, the whole of Internet has now turned their hand to transforming their pumpkins into magical unicorns! All you need is some glue, a unicorn headband, false lashes and some glitter, faux flowers and spray paint if you want to make it extra fancy and girly!

Your carriage awaits Cinders

Keep the magic going for the princess in your life and turn a pumpkin into a carriage! Straight out of a Cinderella story… the dolls shall go to the ball!

Disney!

Here’s one for the kids and the kids at heart. That’s right, Disney! Choose your favourite character and away you go. Don’t worry, we don’t expect it to be as good as the one below!

It's what is on the inside that counts

Over the last few years we have seen people steer away from the standard designs and hollow out pumpkins to reveal the lovely flesh and structure of the beloved orange fruit. In doing so, the pumpkin takes on a new appearance with oodles of light beaming through it.

Sucker for a succulent

Another lifestyle trend that seems to have picked up pace is that of the ‘plant Mum and Dad’. Spending more time at home has meant that certain individuals have taken to nurturing plants as way to pass the time. If this is how you choose to live your life, why not turn your pumpkin into a succulent!

Pretty in floral

Not got a vase to hand? No worries! Use your pumpkin as a home for your flowers. Go for an autumnal palette to compliment the orange skin of the pumpkin or go for bold greens and blacks for a typical Halloween theme. You can use faux flowers too to ensure your ‘vase’ survives that little longer.

It’s all about ‘Hinching’

Ever since cleaning and Instagram sensation Mrs Hinch stepped on the scene it’s been all about the grey décor in many of our homes. Step outside of the box a little and choose a grey pumpkin. Yes, that’s right, there are many more colours, sizes and varieties than your bog-standard orange pumpkin!

Why not have a go at some of these ideas yourself and share them with us! Happy carving and crafting!

Now check out how to get your house ready for the Autumn:

1) Get your boiler serviced

With Summer now over, you're more than likely going to start putting your heating on to take the chill off. As it's most likely been a while since you used the heating, now is a great time to have your annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

2) Bleed your radiators

As well as servicing the boiler, it's also a good idea to bleed your radiators in order to get rid of any air bubbles that have developed. Air bubbles can cause cold sections in your heating system, so this top tip could be very valuable.

3) Check smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors

Although you should do this weekly, Autumn can be a great time to do a full test of both your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. With usage of gas appliances and fires rising in the colder months, a quick test could save your life.

4) Deep clean the house

So everybody has heard of 'Spring clean', but Autumn is also a great time for a deep clean of your house. Whether you're putting away Summer furniture into storage, or swapping out your wardrobe for warmer clothes, start the season right with a deep cleanse!

5) Check and clean your gutters

With leaves set to start falling at a rapid rate, it's a great time to get up and clean your gutters to avoid any congestion. Having clean gutters will also allow water to run more smoothly as the rainy weather sets in.

6) Check your roof

As well as your gutters, now is also a good time to check your roof for any damage. Although most people think it's only the Winter months that are bad for your roof's health, the heat and humidity of Summer can also have a detrimental effect. A quick check for any damage or loose tiles could save you a fortune in the long run.

7) Get your DIY finished

The last thing you want to be doing during the cold and dark nights is DIY, so try and get all of those jobs finished before the cold arrives.

8) Exclude draughts

With the temperatures starting to drop and the cold weather creeping in, you'll want to start excluding any draughts in your windows and doors. Although it can be pricey, insulation in your loft can also help keep the heat in.

10) Spider-proof your house

As you're probably already aware, it's spider season, with the eight-legged creepy crawlies looking to come into our homes for a warmth. If you're not a fan of having spiders around your house, there's plenty humane ways of kindly removing them. Check out 10 ways to spider-proof your house right here.
