Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama begins on Channel 4 today

Following the famous court case between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney that took place earlier this year, a drama following the case has now been created.

The defamation case picked up the name Wagatha Christie on social media and in the press, with many people closely following the extensive coverage of the story. The case ended in July 2022 with the judge ruling in favour of Coleen, and Rebekah forced to pay over £1.5 million for Coleen's legal costs.

When is Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama on TV?

The series will air in two-parts, with the first instalment on Wednesday 21st December at 9pm on Channel 4.

The second part will then air at 9pm on Thursday 22nd December.

What is the show about?

Called Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama, the documentary will see Rebekah played by Harry Potter star Natalia Tena, while BAFTA winner Chanel Cresswell will appear as Coleen.

The two-part drama documentary will use real court transcripts and will recreate the unbelievable moments from the case that couldn't be televised.

As well as Rebekah and Coleen, coverage of the high-profile case included their husbands, England footballers Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy. The casting for them has also been revealed, with Wayne played by actor Dion Lloyd while Jamie will be portrayed by Marci Nagyszokolyai.

Barrister David Sherborne will be played by Michael Sheen, with the role of Wayne's barrister Hugh Tomlinson acted by Simon Coury.

Production company Chalkboard are producing the documentary and their creative Director Tom Popay said of it: "The #WagathaChristie phenomenon has become one of the most talked about moments in the history of social media.

"The court case that followed has captivated the entire nation but very few people actually got to see what happened inside the courtroom. We're excited to bring the trial to life in such a unique way and we're hoping we can get to the bottom of how this case fascinated and amazed so many."

Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama is set to air on Channel 4 on 21st and 22nd of December.
