The Great British Bake Off star Matty Edgell announces engagement following final
Congratulations!
The Great British Bake Off star Matty Edgell has announced that he is engaged to his girlfriend Lara following the final of the much-loved show. In Tuesday's (28th November) final, viewers saw PE and science teacher Matty, post-doctoral research associate Josh Smalley and civil engineer Dan Hunter compete to be crowned the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2023.

28-year-old Matty impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith as he took home the title. In addition to being crowned the winner, Matty also shared the lovely news during his exit interview that he was now engaged to his girlfriend, after popping the question during a trip to Sorrento.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), The Great British Bake Off shared a sweet snap of Matty and Lara, along with the caption: 'A huge congratulations from all of us at Bake Off to Matty and Lara on their engagement!'
After being announced as the winner, Matty said: "I don't know what to say, everyone said you should go on Bake Off and I thought it was a throwaway comment and never really listened to it. I never thought I would be on the show, let alone win it!
"I hope The Great British Bake Off might just change my life a little bit, but being a PE teacher is something I really enjoy at the moment.
"I loved being in the tent and another of my happiest life moments was when I got engaged in Sorrento to my fiancée Lara. I am not sure what's next for me, but my next big baking project is making our wedding cake. I am just going to keep enjoying it."
Praising Matty, Paul said: "He just got better and better, and if you are going to smash it you do it in the last challenge, and that is exactly what he did."
Prue added: "I have never met a more cheerful, smiling, uncomplaining and willing baker. He was just having such a good time, learning as much as he could, taking on board everything either of us said."
