Last updated 29th Dec 2021
Squid Game took the world by storm earlier this year, racking up record breaking viewing figures and becoming the show name on all of our lips. Despite show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk first hinting that season two wasn't on the cards, he later delighted us all when he confirmed that it is officially happening - and now, there's even talks of a third series!
With season two currently in the works, Hwang spoke to Korean broadcaster KBS and confirmed that he is considering giving us a third season as well, saying: "I'm in talks with Netflix over season 2 as well as season 3", he then continued: "We will come to a conclusion any time soon." Hooray!
Despite Hwang Dong-hyuk previously hinting that he didn't have plans to write another season following the first, fans received the delightful news back in November that series two is happening.
The upcoming second series of the hit show is said to feature the story of Gi-hun - the final winner of the deadly contest which landed him almost $40 million in prize money. As viewers of the show will remember, series one ended with Gi-hun ditching his flight back to his daughter to seek revenge on the game organisers.
Since the show's official release in September 2021, it has topped Netflix's charts across the world, reaching the No. 1 spot in more than 90 countries where the streaming service is available.
Of course, it doesn't come as a surprise that Squid Game also became the most-watched Netflix show of all time, racking up a total of 1.65 billion hours of streaming in its first four weeks.
We can't wait to see where the next series takes us!
