In July last year, comedian Ricky Gervais confirmed he'd been incredibly productive during the first lockdown - admitting he'd already started writing season 3 of After Life... And now he's announced when fans can expect it to land on Netflix!

Ricky, who stars in the show as well as creating it, appeared on today's (Wednesday 24th February) episode of Lorraine, where he confirmed filming for series three will begin in April, with an expected release date as the end of 2021.

He told Lorraine, "Everything going well, we film in April and May and then it takes a few months to edit and then it takes a couple of months to put into a 160 languages.

"So, I'm hoping it will air by the end of the year."

As previously announced, Ricky also confirmed series three of the popular show will be the last!

He said, "I've never done a third series of anything. But it felt right, and I fell in love with the characters, and I think this should be it."

Back in July last year, Ricky shared photo of himself holding the series three script, telling his followers, 'Cheers 🥂', as the script read, 'After Life 3, by Ricky Gervais, Episode 1 (First Draft).'

Fans took to the comments to express their joy at the news, with many writing that they couldn't wait to see it. One fan asked, 'Is that the whole 3rd series complete or just the 1st episode? ...Not that I'm trying to hurry you along or anything!' and Ricky replied, 'Just ep 1. The rest are getting there though.'

His tweet arrived after Ricky confirmed that a third series of After Life was given the green light back in May 2020. Ricky, who wrote, directed and starred in the show, took to Twitter to announce the happy news over the third season, just two weeks after the second series was released on Netflix.

In true Ricky style, he wrote, 'Because so many of you watched #AfterLife2 so quickly and made it Number 1 again, the nice people at @Netflix have suggested that I get off my fat arse and do another season. This is all your fault.'

Netflix describes season 2 as follows, 'The comedy-drama series follows Tony (Ricky Gervais), a writer for the local newspaper whose life is upended after his wife dies from cancer. In series 2, whilst still struggling with immense grief for his wife, we see Tony try to become a better friend to those around him. Each grappling with their own problems and only to be intensified by the looming threat of the local newspaper being shut down.'

But that's not the only good news for Ricky, who las year signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to develop new scripted projects as well as stand-up comedy specials. So we'll be seeing much more of him on the streaming service!

Both seasons of After Life are currently streaming on Netflix.
