Fans of hit BBC drama Bodyguard were left very excited over the weekend when it was CONFIRMED that the show will be returning for a second series.

Although a producer of the show revealed that lead character Sergeant David Budd, played by Scottish actor Richard Madden, may not be on the show, he did give some VERY exciting updates about the possibility of Richard becoming the next James Bond.

After current Bond actor Daniel Craig announced the next film will be his last, rumours have been rife that Richard will take over - fresh from his Bodyguard popularity.

And now, a producer for Bodyguard has told the Daily Mail, “We don’t know if Richard will do series two. It depends what happens with James Bond, we don’t know yet.”

Speaking about the rumours in 2018, the former Game Of Thrones actor told GQ, "I'm more than flattered to be mentioned, for people to consider putting me in that role. I'm very flattered and thankful. It's a really brilliant thing to be in. I don't want to curse anything by saying anything. I think that's the curse of that - if you talk about it, you'll curse it.

"This is what happens with all these shows, like Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager. Then there's the next one. I'm the next one. Everyone just loves the rumour mill on that topic. I'm just the current one. There'll be a different one next week."

It comes after Luther actor Idris Elba sent Bond fans into meltdown last year, igniting rumours that he was set to take over as 007 with a cryptic tweet.

Sharing a photo of himself, Idris wrote, 'my name’s Elba, Idris Elba.' sic

As well as Richard and Idris, another name in the running to play the infamous character is Tom Hiddleston, with reports suggesting Taylor Swift's ex is now 'the clear favourite'.

Meanwhile, despite the rumours circulating about who will become the next Bond, it looks like the next film in the James Bond series will be delayed, due to the fact director Danny Boyle quit his role.

The director announced he'd quit the role in August 2018, just months before the team were due to begin filming. It's now being reported that the movie, which was originally due for release in late 2019, will now not hit cinemas until February 2020.
