When it comes to TV, it's safe to say that many of us have some pretty strong opinions on the characters we seen on screen. Whilst some fictional characters capture the hearts of viewers, other ones divide the opinions of fans, whilst some are even 'hated'.

Poll website Ranker surveyed around 30,000 TV viewers to find out which characters are the most hated of all time, as the end of 2023. Take a look through the list, which includes characters from hugely popular shows like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Glee.

These characters are of course fictional, so the opinions of these fans isn't a reflection of the actors who play them.

Take a look at the top 10 most hated TV characters:

10) Ed Peletier - The Walking Dead

Played by Adam Minarovich, Ed Peletier was a character on the popular AMC show The Walking Dead. Ed was abusive to both his wife Carol and daughter Sophia on the show, with one scene showing him slap his wife at camp.

9) Calillou

Being a children's TV character, Caillou might seem like a surprising addition to the list. However, some parents have criticised the character for glorifying bad behaviour and throwing tantrums.

8) Cersei Lannister - Game of Thrones

Played by Lena Headley, Cersei Lannister was Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. On the show, the character was often known for being cruel, having murdered both animals and people.

7) Livia Soprano - The Sopranos

There's no shortage of villainous characters in The Sopranos, but Livia Soprano is certainly one that fans see as the most manipulative. Played by Nancy Marchand, Livia was the mother of Tony Soprano and threatened to kill her son multiple times.

6) Todd Alquist - Breaking Bad

Played by Jesse Plemons, Todd Alquist was a methamphetamine cook on the popular series Breaking Bad. Lots of viewers saw the character of Todd as a sociopath, having killed several people during the course of the show.

5) The Governor - The Walking Dead

Also known as Philip Blake, The Governor is thought of as one of the most evil characters on The Walking Dead. The character killed 69 people on the show, even biting the finger off one of his victims. The Governor is played by David Morrissey.

4) Rachel Berry - Glee

Whilst she isn't a villain like many of the characters on the list, Rachel Berry annoyed some viewers with her cutthroat attitude that sees her do whatever it takes to succeed. However, some fans liked the character due to her determination and hard working attitude. Rachel Berry was played by Lea Michele.

3) Shou Tucker - Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Third place on the list is the character of Shou Tucker from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, who is voiced by Chuck Huber. The character of Shou will do anything to become a successful alchemist - even sacrificing his own family, for which he shows no remorse.

2) Ramsay Bolton - Game of Thrones

Another Game of Thrones character to make the list is Ramsey Bolton, played by Iwan Rheon. Ramsay tortured and killed many innocent people on the show.

1) Joffrey Baratheon - Game of Thrones

Played by Jack Gleeson, the character of Joffrey Baratheon takes the top spot on the list of most hated characters according to viewers. Joffrey did an array of evil acts on the show, killing innocent people and being cruel to the Starks.
Jack made the decision to retire from acting after his time playing the much-hated Joffrey on Game of Thrones. In 2023, Jack later made a comeback and appeared as the character Mo on Sex Education.
