Fans of hit BBC drama Line of Duty have been craving any news about the hugely-anticipated series six, and after creator Jed Mercurio confirmed it would arrive in March 2021, following a delay due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we've now been given even more positive news!

As well as all five previous series being available on the BBC iPlayer, and series two being shown every Saturday night throughout February, bosses have now confirmed series 6 will include SEVEN episodes instead of the usual six.

Sharing a video to the BBC Press Office Twitter account, main actors Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) play out a scene about the news.

Speaking about a suspect, Hastings tells DS Arnott he 'needs more', to which he responds, "How about an extra episode, gaffa?"

Although the BBC haven't yet confirmed an exact start date for series six of Line of Duty, they have announced the new series will hit our TV screens in March.

The series was originally due to land in 2020, but filming, which took place in Belfast, was put to a halt alongside many other popular TV shows due to the pandemic.

Taking to Twitter at the time, Line of Duty bosses wrote, 'In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, @worldprods are suspending filming of #LineofDuty S6 with the support of the BBC. We will keep you updated with further developments in due course. Thank you.'

Just last week, the BBC announced they would be re-airing the entire series two of Line of Duty, starring It's A Sin actress Keeley Hawes.

The six-part series will air every Saturday night at 9pm from 6th February, leading up to the brand new series in March.

Scottish actor Martin Compston shared the news on Instagram, writing, 'To get you in the mood in the run up to Series 6, Line of Duty 2 starts Saturday Feb 6th at 9pm on BBC1. Never has a woman in a neck brace been so terrifying 👀#Dentonarrives'. (sic)

Line of Duty series 6 will air on BBC One in March.
