Back in May, Line of Duty's creator Jed Mercurio confirmed that the cast and crew will NOT resume filming on season 6 until testing on Coronavirus "improves", however now that lockdown restrictions are starting to ease, it looks like the cast could be back on set by as early as next month!

According to Deadline, World Productions, the company that create the thrilling BBC series, are hopeful that filming for the hugely anticipated season 6 will resume the week commencing the 24th August!

It was back in May that Jed explained that whilst soaps are able to incorporate the global pandemic into their storylines, Line Of Duty won't be doing this.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show, he said, "The problem was when testing was abandoned by the Government, we were looking at a situation where we couldn’t apply that. Nobody knows how this is going to unfold and we’ve just got to make sure everybody’s safe.

"I feel for a lot of the crew, it’s a difficult time when you’re out of work. I want to get back as soon as we can, but that’s got to be when it’s safe and we’re not a show that is similar to the soaps."

Jed added, "Where there’s a possibility of bringing the actual subject of corona into the storyline, where that could make it slightly easier for them to adapt to it, whereas it’s currently not in Line Of Duty‘s world.

"To be honest with you there’s a lot we can do within the industry, but until wider society has the public health infrastructure of test, trace and isolate in place it’s going to be very hard for anyone. I just don’t think, unless wider society has got the process right, we’ll be able to work in isolation."

Show bosses confirmed that production on season 6 of the show had been suspended due to the Coronavirus back in March. Although the show was set to return later this year with the sixth season, the production team took the decision to follow Peaky Blinders after their production was postponed.

Taking to Twitter, they wrote, 'In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, @worldprods are suspending filming of #LineofDuty S6 with the support of the BBC. We will keep you updated with further developments in due course. Thank you.'

Fans were obviously disappointed, but took to the comments to share their support for the decision. One wrote, 'Very sorry to hear this, but the right decision given the circumstances. Wishing all cast and crew the best in the upcoming months and weeks - take care, all.'

Another added, 'This is sad to hear but the cast and crew need to stay safe! sending you all the love @Vicky_McClure , @martin_compston and adrian...we can wait for s6.'
