When did the original films release?

Legally Blonde the movie first hit cinemas way back in 2001, starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods, a girl who attends Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. The film sees Elle overcome typical 'blonde stereotypes' and go on to become a hugely successful lawyer.

After receiving a huge $141.8 million worldwide at the box office, the film's sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, was released in 2003 and was also loved by fans.

In recent years, rumours have been rife of a third movie, with The Mindy Project's Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor of Brooklyn Nine-Nine signing up to write the script.

However, after the film was reportedly delayed in 2022, no new information has landed about the third movie, and now it looks like the TV series could be top of Reese's agenda.

Mindy previously told TIME: "The hardest thing about this project is trying to figure that out in an authentic way. We don't want to be responsible for ruining what's basically Reese's Avengers franchise."
