Riverdale star KJ Apa has shared his thoughts on the show being cancelled, following the news breaking last week that season seven would be the last. After starring in the murder mystery turned supernatural teen drama since day one, as the well-known Archie Andrews, the actor has now reacted to the news.

Although he will find it "hard" to say goodbye, KJ admitted that he believes it's the "perfect" time to bring the show to an end. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said: "I feel sad, you know, it's going to be really hard to say goodbye to Archie, to Riverdale, to the sets, to our crew."

He then continued: "We've created so many memories on this show, for both ourselves and for the fans, so it's going to be hard."

Despite anticipating that bringing Riverdale to an end will be sad for him and his co-stars, KJ spoke about the timing, adding: "I think it's perfect. All great things have to come to an end. I feel good about it."

KJ's comments follow on from CW's CEO Mark Pedowitz's previous statement, where he said: "I am a big believer in attempting to give series that have had long runs an appropriate sendoff," before continuing: "We will treat the show in the manner it deserves... We want to make sure it goes out the right way."

KJ Apa isn't the only star from the show that has spoken out about the season's cancellation, with Cole Sprouse (who plays Jughead Jones), Camila Mendes (who plays Veronica Lodge) and Lili Reinhart (who plays Betty Cooper) all hinting at their thoughts, prior to the news being confirmed.

Before Riverdale's cancellation was officially confirmed, Camila teased: "I think we'll go through season seven. Here's hoping. We'll see," adding that season seven will: "Probably be the last one".

Cole Sprouse also hinted that he and his co-stars were "ready" to wrap the show "with a bow".
