Whilst we were all very excited about the new John Lewis Christmas advert starring Elton John, here in the UK; over in the USA, there was a man called John Lewis, who constantly gets mistaken for the popular retailer on Twitter! Now, John Lewis (the man), who is a university lecturer, has got his very own Christmas advert, and it's taking the Internet by storm.
Posting the advert on Twitter, John said, 'You've been asking about the John Lewis advert, well here it is... @TwitterUK gave me a starring role in my very own Christmas #ad #NotARetailStore'.
The playful advert focuses on John’s annual festive ritual, where he responds to tweets aimed at the retailer, whether its praise for the latest ad or simply routine customer enquiries! Accompanied by the Christmas carol, 'In The Bleak Midwinter', the video has had received 4.5K likes on Twitter, just an hour after it was posted, with loads of responses being tweeted.
One fan tweeted, 'This is better than the actual JL xmas advert!', with another saying, 'Brilliant. This is the ad @jlandpartners should've done about three years ago with real @johnlewis.' sic
A further fan tweeted, 'This is amazing, thank you for lightening our days with some much needed whimsy.'
Whilst the release of the John Lewis retailer advert heralds the beginning of the Christmas season for many, John Lewis, a computer-science lecturer at Virginia Tech University, receives endless tweets as he is confused with the retailer. Last year alone, John received a MASSIVE 50,000 tweets that should have been directed at the retailer!
Speaking about his very own advert, John said, "I think it’s hilarious that people mistake me for the UK store and I do my best to direct them to the right place. I see a massive spike in Tweets at this time of year and I always watch the John Lewis advert, especially as it becomes a huge part of my Twitter conversation.
"I find it absolutely fascinating that Twitter UK has chosen me to star in their Christmas film. Hopefully people will be kind about my acting skills, I am no Elton John but who knows maybe I’ll get Tweets about my own film this year."
The official Christmas advert for John Lewis, the retailer, dropped last week and featured Elton John. The advert titled, The Boy and the Piano, features Sir Elton John playing his hit 'Your Song' and how it's evolved over time.
