Sepsis is a serious condition that happens when the body's response to infection injures its own tissues and organs. The most common signs of the condition include increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, confusion and fever.
Melissa explained how the doctors told her William had a 'viral infection' despite his condition worsening. When she took him to an emergency doctor two days before he died, Melissa said she was sent home.
After seeing two doctors and speaking to the 111 service, Melissa bravely relived the moment she went in to check on her son just hours after the doctor told her to leave him in bed to rest, only to find he had passed away.

Melissa later explained how she was 'let down' by the NHS, with Phillip documenting the NHS England report found there were four missed opportunities to save Wiliam's life.
William's family have since received an apology from Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt after he attended William's memorial service.
As proud mum Melissa told Phillip and Holly what she's been doing to raise more awareness of the life threatening condition and how proud she is of her late son, Holly couldn't hold back her tears.

Melissa said, "I'm blessed that he picked me to be his mum, I'm honoured to call him my son. I'm incredibly proud of what's been achieved in his name. It's not me that's done that, it's him. The impact he's had in his short life is more than I could ever hope to achieve in my life time."
Clutching a teddy bear throughout the whole interview, Melissa later explained some of William's ashes had been put into the bear so he could always be with them.
