Gavin and Stacey writer Ruth Jones has reunited with co-star and close pal Rob Brydon for a brand-new sitcom.

The actors will play married couple and title characters Gaynor & Ray, fifty-something newlyweds who are both married for the second time.

Gaynor's first marriage came to an end when she found out her husband had been cheating on her multiple times and Ray's marriage broke down after his ex-wife described him as 'impossible to live with'.

The show follows the Cardiff couple, who have only been together six months, learning new things about each other and sometimes questioning whether they've done the right thing.

Viewers see the pair go on their honeymoon to the Scottish Highlands where they meet a number of different characters and get into a variety of situations which causes them to ponder their own relationship.

Filmed on location in South Wales and the North West Scottish Highlands, the show was created and co-written by Ruth Jones and David Peet. They said: "We’re delighted to watch Gaynor & Ray come to life on screen. Through them we get to see the male and female take on life and relationships as well as the nonsense in the day-to-day."

Ruth played Nessa Jenkins in the award-winning comedy series Gavin and Stacey alongside Rob Brydon, who played uncle Bryn West.

The show ran from 2007 to 2010, before it returned nine years later for a highly-anticipated Christmas special, which ended on a cliffhanger after Nessa proposed to James Corden's character Smithy.

Although they are yet to confirm a date, Gaynor & Ray will air on the BBC.
