Veteran actor Charles Dance has spoken out about the Game of Thrones finale - and it's safe to say that he's in agreement with a lot of other fans of the show. Charles, who played Lannister patriarch Tywin for the first four years of the show, has revealed in an interview on Good Morning Britain that he was left completely baffled by the ending.

This echoes the sentiments of a number of viewers, who felt that the finale was rather lacklustre and that the final season had rushed through a lot of important character development in order to squeeze everything into the final six episodes.

He told Ben Shephard, "I was confused. I have watched as much as I can because there are characters like Daenerys - her character and my character, we never met at all, so we would only meet at press junkets and things. I wanted to know what was happening to these characters.

"It got to the very end and I thought, ‘Hmm, ok.’ There’s little Arya going off on a cruise somewhere, poor Jon’s gone back up North beyond the wall and then there is Tyrion, and all the people left alive are sat around the table. So well, what are we going to do now, shall we have a cup of tea or something? I thought, ‘ah, I don’t know.'"

Charles then admitted that he'd hoped his on-screen son Tyrion Lannister, played by Peter Dinklage, might emerge victorious and take the crown - despite the fact that his character is the one who infamously shot Charles' character whilst he was on the toilet!

Despite some fans questioning the show, the final episode - entitled 'The Iron Throne' broke Game of Thrones viewing records, drawing an audience of 19.3 million. This surpassed the previous record held by the fifth episode, 'The Bells', which drew 18.4 million viewers.

This comes after fans were convinced that, after seeing who really ended up on the Iron Throne, show bosses had actually teased the identity of the final monarch in the very first season's poster for the show.
