Coronation Street fans have just about recovered from the heartbreak of Kate Connor and Rana Nazir being cruelly torn apart when Rana was killed - on their wedding day, no less. Rana went into the factory just moments after they'd exchanged vows to collect their wedding rings minutes before the roof collapsed in dramatic scenes in March.

She managed to ring Kate to tell her she loved her in the moments before the roof fully collapsed after realising that she wouldn't make it, and was crushed by more rubble with Kate managing to make her way in as Rana passed away.

However, just a month after the tragic events of the episode, actress Faye Brookes - who has played Kate for four years - has taken to Twitter to announce that she's decided to leave the soap.

Writing on her personal account, Faye - who is engaged to former Pop Idol star Gareth Gates - wrote, 'Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new. #kana #corrie♥️.' sic
