Following Paul Ashdale's death in a dramatic explosion, Mandy Dingle is left struggling to cover his funeral costs, as well as deal with the enormous debts he'd fraudulently built up on her accounts.
But as Mandy begs a newly minted Charity Dingle for help and Sam Dingle and Lydia Hart try (and fail) to have the debts cleared, Mandy doesn't realise that her son Vinny Dingle has his own plan.

Daring to hope, Manpreet and Ethan head off but when his mum doesn't show, they're forced to awkwardly explain why they've turned up to the party together.

Lydia is touched when Vinny asks her if she'll be his counsellor but she's got bigger things on her plate when she calls at Home Farm and finds Kim slumped over her laptop. Lydia begs her to seek medical help, but Kim is as dismissive as ever.
It's the day of Rishi's 70th party and in the midsts of preparations, Ethan asks Manpreet to go with him to visit his mum, who's messaged him out of the blue. Daring to hope, Manpreet and Ethan head off but when his mum doesn't show, they're forced to awkwardly explain why they've turned up to the party together.
The next day Ethan is gutted to receive a message from his mum saying she doesn't want to get to know him. Seeing Ethan upset, Manpreet's heart breaks and she urges him to tell his dad what's going on. Later on when Charles asks Manpreet if she knows what's bothering Ethan, Manpreet remains loyal.
Vinny is feeling guilty about moving back in with Liv and leaving his mum on her own. Sorting through Paul's belongings, Vinny unearths a notebook and tells Liv it's a comprehensive account of all his winnings and losses, as well as inside info on future tips.
Meanwhile, a penniless Mandy pays a desperate visit to Charity to beg for a loan to cover the cost of Paul's funeral, but Charity isn't feeling her namesake and instead offers to buy the salon off her. With Lydia and Sam's attempts to get the bank to cancel Paul's fraudulent claims on Mandy's account unsuccessful, Mandy has no choice but to consider the offer.
Nate feels bad that he hasn't been able to spend any time with Tracy recently and promises that he'll try and get his work done quickly so they can attend a family photoshoot together. But disaster strikes when David accidentally runs over Nate's foot - leaving him even less help around the house that he was before. When Tracy finds a concerning lump on baby Frankie's stomach, she's forced to take him to hospital on her own.
Back at Liv's, the temptation to look up Paul's insider tips prove too much for Vinny and he's thrilled when his first bet wins him a tidy sum. But Mandy is horrified when she catches Vinny logged onto the gambling site, worried he'll turn out like his dad. The coggs whirring, Mandy pays Mack a visit to see if he'll help her out.
Over at the Woolie, Chas and Marlon are devastated to realise that with the current takings they'll be forced to let Matty go from the kitchen. While Marlon tries to build up the nerve to face Matty, Rhona's gutted that he's having to work another weekend - but she's no idea he's about to be a lot busier at work.
